Day 1 Arrive Nairobi
Arrive in Nairobi at any time.
Day 2 Nakuru (B,L,D)
Head to Lake Nakuru and enjoy an afternoon safari in search of black and white rhino, lion and buffalo.
Day 3 Lake Naivasha (B,L)
Enjoy a boat ride to get close to giraffes and antelope on Crescent Island, and spot ibis, lovebirds, fish eagles, hippo, and the black and white colobus monkey on the banks of Lake Naivasha. Use your free time to explore the lakeside.
Day 4-5 Arusha (2B)
Journey south to Nairobi, and beyond through Masai lands to Arusha, Tanzania. Day 5 in Arusha is a free day, where optional activities include a full day trip Ngorongoro Crater for a safari experience, or to Lake Manyara or Arusha National Park for a chance to see some diverse wildlife up close.
Day 6 Lushoto (B)
Take a bus ride to Lushoto, your base for the Usumbara Mountains. Explore the town and prepare for your trek in the mountains above the town.
Day 7-10 Usumbara Mountain Trek (4B,4L,3D)
Start your 4-day trek through the Tanzanian countryside and traditional villages - Lukozi, Rangwi, and Mtae - where you will have the chance to not only trek along the lush slopes of the Usumbara mountains, but also learn about the local culture and have some great interaction with the villagers. We will hike through a series of hill-side villages, visit a soil conservation project, women's pottery groups, and even a traditional healer.
Day 11-12 Dar Es Salaam / Mikadi Beach
Continue to Tanzania's capital, Dar Es Salaam. Stay at the beach, which is only two kilometres from downtown, but feels like the middle of the African wilds. Visit the National Museum or explore the fish market, or simply relax on the Indian Ocean beach.
Day 13 Depart Dar Es Salaam / Mikadi Beach
You are free to depart any time this day. Many travelers will take the ferry across to Zanzibar and explore this unique and historic island.
