Day 1 Arrive Cairo
Arrive in Cairo at any time.
Day 2 Cairo (B)
Visit Memphis, Saqqara and Giza today, and marvel at the legendary pyramids of Djoser and Giza. In the afternoon wander the Egyptian Museum, where the famous treasures of Tutankhamen’s tomb are on display.
Day 3 Al Faiyum Oasis (B)
Explore Al Faiyum, a little-known but extensive Greco-Roman city. Next, see the pyramids of Hawara and spectacular Meidum, with its associated mastaba, before heading to rarely-visited il-Lahun.
Day 4 Al Minya (B)
The morning is free to explore Faiyum before the journey to Al Minya. Enjoy an optional felucca trip to see the city from the water, or just relax by the pool.
Day 5 Asyut (B)
Drive to Asyut, with a stop at the Royal Wadi and the tomb of Pharaoh Akhenaton. Next visit the Northern Tombs, and see the former capital of the Egyptian world. See Tuna el-Gebel’s boundary stelae and animal mummies, then finally discover Ashmunein, with its Roman agora and an early Christian basilica.
Day 6-7 Luxor (2B)
Explore the temple of Seti I at Abydos, with the finest reliefs in Egypt. Spend the day exploring this stunning temple, and the nearly temple of Denderah.
Day 8 Luxor (B)
Cross the Nile this morning to visit the West Bank. Enter the Valley of the Kings, arguably the world’s most famous archaeological site. Move on to the Valley of the Queens before finishing with the Colossi of Memnon. Optional afternoon visit to Karnak and Luxor Temples.
Day 9-11 Aswan/O/N sleeper train (3B)
Aswan is blessed with one of the most beautiful locations in all of Egypt. Enjoy a half day tour of the island temple of Philae, Aswan Dam, Unfinished Obelisk. Why not take a ride in a traditional felucca and explore the Nile islands, or perhaps a camel ride to the St Simeon Monastery. Take the chance to make the half day journey to the lakeside temples of Abu Simbel- truly an impressive sight!
Day 12-13 Cairo (2B,D)
We return to Cairo for further exploration of this ancient capital. We discover Islamic Cairo by foot,finding out more about this fascinating area where time stands still and take the chance to visit a mosque. Enjoy an excursion to Coptic Cairo to find out more about the history and architecture of the first Christians in Egypt.
