Day 1 Arrive Antigua
Arrive in Antigua at any time.
Day 2-3 Lanquín
Travel north to the Mayan village of Lanquín, located near the famous Semuc Champey, a natural limestone bridge with picturesque turquoise pools perfect for swimming. Check out the famous local caves (and bats!) or tube down the river with its several waterfalls.
Day 4-5 Flores, Tikal
Continue north towards Flores, a charming island town on Lake Petén Itzá. Wander the narrow cobblestone streets, shop, or take a boat trip on the lake. Explore the incredible Mayan city of Tikal, probably the most impressive of all Mayan ruins. Watch out for monkeys!
Day 6-7 Poptún
Head south-east into the lush Petén region of Guatemala. Stay at a nearby scenic ranch and working farm. Optional activities abound, including cave tours, tubing, jungle treks and admiring Mayan hieroglyphs.
Day 8-9 Río Dulce
Arrive to boaters' haven Rio Dulce. Take a boat trip on the "sweet river" to Livingston, a coastal town known for its hybrid Afro-Caribbean Garifuna culture. Soak up the laid-back Guatemalan Caribbean atmosphere. Travel upriver for an excellent chance to spot wildlife, making sure to stop along the way for a swim in some basic hot springs.
Day 10-11 Monterrico
Crossing the mountainous interior, arrive in the laid-back beach town of Monterrico. Chill out on the beach, take an optional boat tour through the mangroves or set out on one of the many hiking trails, perfect for nature lovers and birders.
Day 12-13 Jaibalito
This tiny village sits on the north shores of breathtaking Lake Atitlán, surrounded by volcanoes. There are no paved roads leading into Jaibalito, but the paths weaving across the slopes offer rewarding views of the lake. Enjoy an included boat tour on the lake visiting nearby villages.
Day 14-15 Chichicastenango/Antigua
Experience Chichicastenango, the most famous market in Central America. Check out different weaving styles or buy some uniquely Guatemalan souvenirs. Squeeze yourself on to the infamous 'chicken' bus for a memorable journey back to Antigua. Enjoy your last day in Antigua with a salsa class or take advantage of the many options including a city tour, jade museum, coffee plantations, Pacaya Volcano climb, horseback riding, or just hanging out in the main square of this relaxed World Heritage city.
