Day 1 Arrive Lima
Arrive in Lima at any time.
Day 2-19 Peru
Start in Lima, with its museums and historical buildings; the districts of Miraflores and Barranco offer good nightlife and cafés. Continue south to Pisco, named for the liquor produced here, and jumping off point for excursions to the Ballestas Islands. Take an optional flight over the mysterious Nazca Lines before reaching the colonial city of Arequipa, the starting point for excursions to the Colca Canyon. Cuzco, the Inca trail and the ruins of Machu Picchu are next. Explore the Incan and Spanish mix of Cuzco before heading out on the trail. For many, watching from the Sun Gate as dawn breaks over Machu Picchu at the end of the 4-day trek is the experience of a lifetime. Our final stop in Peru is Lake Titicaca. Here take an excursion to the Uros floating islands, and overnight with a family on Taquile or Amantani Island.
Day 20-31 Bolivia
From La Paz, Bolivia’s fascinating capital, travel south to Cochabamba before arriving in Sucre, Bolivia’s “White City.” The World Heritage city of Potosí is the highest in the world and a silver mining centre during colonial times. Here you have the chance to descend into a working silver mine. Finally spend three days in 4x4 vehicles exploring the unusual landscapes of mountains and geysers, piercing blue skies and blinding white salt flats between the Salar de Uyuni and the Atacama Desert (Chile).
Day 32-46 Chile
Descend from the altiplano to the edge of the Atacama Desert at the oasis of San Pedro de Atacama. Go biking, horseback riding or explore nearby ruins. Travel to La Serena and visit a Pisco factory or check out one of the local observatories. Santiago is Chile’s capital and largest city where we explore the many museums and parks and visit the vibrant neighbourhood of Bellavista. Optional day trips include Valparaiso and Viña del Mar, Chile’s premier beach resort, and Isla Negra, Pablo Neruda’s seaside home. Board a bus to Pucón, a mecca for anyone interested in outdoor pursuits. After some active time, we head further south to Puerto Montt. Take a day trip to the island of Chiloé and sample the seafood.
Day 47-51 Argentina
Journey through the mountains of upper Patagonia to stunning Bariloche, great for hiking and biking. Vibrant Buenos Aires is known as the ‘Paris of the Americas.’ Catch a tango show or sample the legendary nightlife.
