The Overland Track is Australia’s premier extended bushwalk. The Cradle Mountain Lake St Clair National Park is renowned for its abundant wildlife, rare and unusual vegetation and dramatic scenery. Averaging just 12km per day, there are plenty of opportunities to appreciate the highlights and side trips. Savor this remote landscape, with highlights such as Pelion West, Mount Oakleigh and the Geryons. No special skills are necessary as you let our experienced guides help to bring the track alive for you with their local knowledge and enthusiasm for the Tasmanian wilderness.

Day 1 Launceston
Arrive in Launceston at any time.
Day 2 Waterfall Valley (L,D)
Begin your journey with a stop in Sheffield, Tasmania’s town of murals. Then, continue on to Cradle Mt Lake St Clair National Park. The Overland Track Trek begins with a short drive to Dove Lake, followed by a long climb that takes you onto the Cradle Plateau. Next, climb through the splendid deciduous Nothofagus Gunnii onto exposed alpine herb fields with spectacular views of Cradle Mountain and Barn Bluff arriving into Waterfall Valley for a night under the stars.
Day 3 Lake Windermere (B, L, D)
Heading south from Waterfall Valley leads you to Lake Windermere. A leisurely day offers time to explore the waterfalls, with a side trip past the diggings of Joseph Will, then onto Innes Falls. Head back across the rolling button grass plains towards your campsite at Lake Windermere, where you spend the afternoon at leisure.
Day 4 Pelion Plains (B, L, D)
A wild day of moorlands and mountain views. The morning takes you across Pine Forest Moor, offering stark landscapes and views east across the Forth River Valley. From undulating Buttongrass vistas into the forested slopes of Mount Pelion West, descend around the mountain to a popular lunch spot at Frog Flats. The afternoon takes you up to Pelion Plains, with marvelous views of fluted Mount Oakleigh and some of the biggest wombats our guides have seen in the park!!! Finally, make camp near Douglas Creek.
Day 5 Kia Ora (B,L,D)
Climb off Pelion Plains through beautiful green forests of sassafras and myrtles covered in rich mosses and lichens. As you ascend you start to come into eucalyptus forests where before your eyes the view opens up to reveal Cathedral Mountain and Pelion East on your left followed by Mount Ossa on your right. Continue south into the beautiful Pinestone Valley. Depending upon the day’s activities we set camp somewhere between Kia Ora and Du Cane Hut – once the bush home of trapper Paddy Hartnett and his wife.
Day 6 Windy Ridge (B,L,D)
Wake up in your warm tents nestled beneath the crags of Cathedral Mountain and Mount Massif. After breakfast, head off for a day surrounded by towering rainforests of leatherwood and sassafras tress, heading towards Ferguson Falls, Dalton Falls and Hartnett Falls, three of Tasmania's largest. After a good swim, trek to Du Cane Gap and down into the rich Myrtle forests, where camp is made around Windy Ridge.
Day 7 Lake St Clair (B,L)
The morning takes us through dry sclerophyll forest toward the shores of Lake St Clair. As you hike out to the grassy area called Bowling Green, massive Acropolis Mountain appears to your right. Nearing Lake St Clair, you come out into open button grass plains to a view of Mount Olympus at the foot of Lake St. Clair. From Narcissus, catch the ferry down Lake St Clair, where the trek ends.
