- It should be stressed that the nature of the accommodation when compared with other areas of SE Asia, is sometimes of a lower standard than normally provided on Gap Adventures trips. This is often due to the location and type of activities involved (ie high on a mountain and in remote jungle areas). Accommodation is always clean and usually makes up in character and location, what it might not provide in glamour and additional services.
Day 1 Arrive Kota Kinabalu
Arrive in Kota Kinabalu at any time.
Day 2-3 Sepilkok Orangutan Reserve
Come face to face with the original 'wild men of Borneo', the lovely orangutans (meaning 'man of the forest'). The centre is an excellent working example of active conservation, whose main focus is to re-introduce domesticated, injured and orphaned orangutans back into the wild.
Day 4-5 Kinabatangang River
Journey along the Kinabatangang River. Keep your eyes open for wild elephants, boar, otters, orangutans and other reclusive species in this out of world experience.
Day 6 Sandakan - Turtle Island
Overnight on Turtle Island where most evenings you can see giant green and hawksbill turtles come ashore to lay their eggs.
Day 7-8 Pulau Tiga
Formed after a volcanic eruption just over one hundred years ago, Pulau Tiga has magnificent coral reefs and a wide variety of terrestrial flora and fauna - the perfect place to end your trip.
Day 9 Kota Kinabalau
